The city swallowed them whole—bright lights, honking cars, bodies moving fast through the crowded streets. But Sin wasn’t thinking about any of that. His ears were hot. His pulse still drummed in his chest.
Rico walked a few paces behind, hands shoved in his pockets, glancing over his shoulder every now and then. Always alert. Always thinking.
Then Sin turned to him, slowly.
Silence.
"What?" Rico asked.
Sin’s face twisted in disgust. He felt violated.
Rico signed, "That was smart practice, right? Nothing bad happened. Why the fuck did you bring that stupid gun? That’s not cool."
Sin didn’t respond. He was fuming.
Rico didn’t get it. He never did. Rico could hear. Rico could blend in. Rico didn’t have to prove himself every second of every day.
Sin looked straight ahead, jaw tight, eyes burning.
Rico kept talking, kept signing, but Sin barely paid attention. He nodded a few times out of habit but wasn’t listening.
He was already planning the next job.
